Obey / Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey resides and works in Los Angeles. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1992 and gained fame with a sticker and poster campaign featuring the wrestler André Roussimoff, known as “Andre the Giant has a posse.” Throughout the 1990s, he expanded this campaign worldwide
under the name Obey Giant.

His art focuses on reproducing images and sharing them in urban spaces, using visual cues from political propaganda and advertising to create a distinctive graphic style. Fairey has created portraits of icons, supporting various social and political causes, including endorsing Barack Obama with the iconic “HOPE” poster during the 2008 presidential campaign. This portrait is now on display at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

For the past 25 years, Shepard has been advocating for ecology and against the consequences of climate change. Concerned for future generations, he hopes that his message conveyed through his artworks will raise public awareness of the crisis facing our planet. It is with this committed artistic approach that he created a giant sphere suspended on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower on the theme of ecology.

Shepard Fairey has created over 60 murals worldwide, including in Paris with the mural “Rise Above Rebel” as part of the Street Art 13 project. His work is exhibited in several international museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
