D*Face

Dean Stockton aka DFace was born in 1978 in London, where he now lives and works. Artist, sculptor and illustrator, he also opened his own urban art gallery, Stolenspace Gallery, in London in 2005.

From his early teens, DFace was fascinated by the United States and the American Dream. Already passionate about skateboarding and drawing, the artist discovered Graffiti and Street Art at the age of 15 thanks to the specialist magazines Subway Art and Spraycan Art

After studying design, he launched his career as a freelance illustrator, developing his street art activities in parallel. His work draws on American comics, particularly those by Matt Baker, Jack Kamen and John Romita. His style is recognisable for its use of pop art imagery, reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein and even Andy Warhol, and includes images of icons such as Marilyn Monroe and the Queen of England. His work deals with society’s obsession with celebrities and over-consumption in a dark and satirical way. The aim of his work is “to encourage people not only to see, but also to look at what surrounds them, to rethink the stereotypes of our culture, not to
remain passive before the reign of conspicuous consumption”, D*Face.

His murals depict highly expressive female or male characters, often accompanied by a comment or thought. They look like they’ve been taken from a page of an American comic book, and can be seen in Barcelona, New York, Tokyo, Miami and Los Angeles and Paris among other places.
